A child’s birthday is a perfect opportunity to tell them what a gift they are to their family, school community, and the world. We celebrate each child’s birthday with a beautiful Montessori ritual. We look at photos from each year of the child’s life and share personal stories about the child. Parents often join in the celebration to further personalize the celebration.
We have a unique holiday program each December in which the children have the opportunity to display their dramatic talents. The audience is entertained with a dance recital, group performances, and a play! Afterwards, friends and family are invited to a potluck lunch in honor of our special performers. Our holiday program showcases all the creative talents of Montessori children.
Every two weeks, we choose three children in our community and recognize them as the special people they are! The children and their families create a poster of pictures which we display and discuss. We also encourage family members to send letters from home describing what makes the child special and unique which we read aloud at circle time.
We celebrate diversity daily at Faith through discussions of different cultures in our society and around the world. We promote an understanding of other cultures through firsthand experiences in the classroom. We encourage and welcome parents to share their own special religious or cultural traditions with our school community. Throughout the years, we have enjoyed many presentations including Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Irish, Native American, Mexican, Swedish, and African American cultures.
Promoting a loving acceptance of differences is our way of carrying out Dr. Maria Montessori’s goal of achieving world peace.
